Head of Department: Prof. Vijay Jaiswal (Dean, Faculty of Education)

The Department of Education had its inception in 1970. It was the only department in India that introduced M.Phil. Education Programme for the first time in 1970. This was followed by introduction of M.Ed. programme in the year 1974. Along with these courses, the department also offers Ph.D. programme in Education. The department has also been granted the status of Centre of Excellence by Government of Uttar Pradesh in 2016.

The department has constantly focused upon to produce competent, committed and responsible teacher educators and quality researchers. The department has also taken lead to produce innovative and quality researches. The major thrust areas of research in the department are teacher education, educational technology, educational psychology, and curriculum studies.

The department has well-equipped teaching-learning labs and required infrastructural facilities. In view of making students abreast with the latest trends, department regularly organizes in-house lectures, seminars and workshops. Department also provides all-round exposure to its learners by engaging them in a plethora of diversified activities like recreational tours, cultural programmes, etc.

About programme

Master of Education (M.Ed.) Programme offered by the department is a two year (four semesters) regular programme. It is a blend of theoretical as well as practical components along with the dissertation. There are 25 seats in the programme.

Those who have secured minimum 50% marks in B.Ed./B.A.B.Ed./ B.Sc. B.Ed./ B.El.Ed (relaxation of 5% for SC/ST candidates) or D.El.Ed. with an undergraduate degree (with 50% marks in each) are eligible for admission in the programme. Every candidate interested in admission to M.Ed. Programme has to appear and qualify the Entrance test of the University to be held every year.

About programme

Department offers full-time Ph.D. (Education) programme. Ph.D. (Education) is a regular full time course governed by the UGC Ph.D. regulations 2009.
To be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme, a candidate must have obtained M.Ed. degree with 55% marks. Every candidate interested in admission to Ph.D. Programme has to appear and qualify the centralized Ph.D. admission test of the University to be held every year. The candidate qualifying the admission test or those who are exempted from admission test will have to pass Ph.D. course work before registration in the Ph.D.
